Truthfully, I have not read very many of them. There is such a wealth of information available on the Internet that I can usually begin learning whatever I want by reading several websites.
However, a few months ago, Michael Schulz of Grand Blanc (Flint Area) suggested that I read a book, called Getting Noticed on Google by Ben Norman. At the time I talked with him, he indicated that the book did an amazing job of covering a vast amount of information within a small book. Plus, he claimed that it was not only information packed, but the information layout made it easy to learn, also.
Eventually, I ordered the book and read it, and most of you should, too.
Michael was absolutely right! This book IS very good.
This is a perfect book for people who are beginning to learn about Internet Marketing and SEO.
Google is only one of many search engines, but it is, by far, the one MOST people use. So it is important to know what is important to Google.
However, the same principles apply to having your website rank well on other search engines.
Why did I like the book?
A lot of people who write about the Internet seem to demonstrate their knowledge more than they write to teach. They tend to give details that masquerade as explanations.
This book uses a lot of short sentences, which is good. This makes it easy to understand.
Plus, there is plenty of space between the blocks of words. So you can absorb more without having your eyes and your mind become too tired to absorb the delivered message.
There are also pictures and diagrams. These pictures are actual screen shots of what you would see on the Internet, and they demonstrate the different points the author makes.
To emphasize points, it puts tips and warnings in the side margins. They're not just fillers, either. Ben Norman does a good job of isolating things that need to be noticed that might otherwise be overlooked within the main body text.
What does the book cover?
This book covers all sorts of beginning level topics, but here are a few of the key things:
- General Explanation of Google and How it Works
- Free Tools that you can use yourself
- Some tips on how to analyze your online competition
- How to design and optimize your site for Google
- Introduction to Google AdWords and Google Product Search
- Tips on Getting Outside Help with your website
What does the book NOT cover?
This book gives directions how to do a few things, but this is mostly a concept book. You will not know how to create a website, and you will not necessarily know how to market your website.
This book will make it easier for you to learn from other things you read and are taught.
I recommend this book. It's short; it's quick, and it's effective. If you want to learn a lot quickly, this book is a great place to start.
